Development Program Description

Successful applicants for the Critical Development Program will be enrolled in the Michener Institute’s Critical Care course. Admission requirements for the Michener Institute Course must be met. The Critical Care program will provide financial resources for eligible Registered Nurses to complete the Critical Care course including:

Payment for tuition costs Paid clinical placement hours at the employee’s current hourly rate Payment for full time salary and benefits or % in lieu while completing the course (11 weeks)

Successful applicants may work on the unit prior to commencing the program in a temporary role in an adjunct role. At the end of the program the Registered Nurse will transfer to a Full Time Critical Care position. A commitment of 24 months working in Critical Care following completion of the course is expected.

Position Description

Critical Care (Oshawa/Ajax) Float Pool RNs will report to the Patient Care Manager, ICU Ajax and will utilize nursing processes in providing a positive patient care experience at both sites. As a Critical Care RN on the float pool you will participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team as an individual practitioner to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current RN practices. The Float RN for the Oshawa/Ajax (LHO/LHAP) sites will maintain nursing records and perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties And Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) with the Critical Care Float (LHO/LHAP) will utilize nursing process in providing exceptional patient care. The nurse will participate as a member of the Resource Pool Nursing Team for the Critical Care site specific programs. As an individual practitioner RNs will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. Will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.

Qualifications

Commitment to successfully complete the Michener course at time of hire; Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing); Current BLS; B.Sc.N and ACLS preferred; Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by CNO; Recent experience in an acute care setting preferred; Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teaching skills; Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a reasonable length of time; Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills; Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations; Proven ability to lift, turn and transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids; Demonstrated ability to assume a leadership/supervisory role; Knowledge of invasive monitoring, preferred; Evidence of ongoing education preferred; Must have a satisfactory performance record; Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area
