ROLE
The Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (OTA/PTA) is responsible for assisting in the treatment of inpatients and outpatients, care of the departmental equipment, clerical and reception functions and portering of patients. The OTA/PTA is accountable for their performance and performs responsibilities under the direction and supervision of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist. The OTA/PTA functions in a patient centered interprofessional team environment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

Graduate of recognized Rehabilitation or Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant Program
-
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
-
Valid Ontario drivers’ license and ability to travel among sites, as required
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Previous experience working with inpatients and outpatients in the areas of rehabilitation, medicine, complex continuing care, stroke, surgery and critical care
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to function in an interprofessional team model
- Ability to determine priorities and manage time effectively
- Critical thinking, problem solving, decision making skills
- Computer, word processing skills
- Working knowledge of Meditech Information System and personal computer applications
- Knowledge of anatomy, therapeutic modalities and exercise, disabling conditions, health Sciences
