About the role
Department: Perioperative Services
The Clinical Nurse Educator of Perioperative Services will provide leadership, clinical coaching and mentorship to the perioperative portfolio. The Clinical Nurse Educator will work in collaboration with the programs leadership team to establish and develop standards of work, policies, procedures, as well as provide educational opportunities and support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program required
- Master of Nursing (MN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) required
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent clinical nursing experience (within the past 2–3 years) in one or more of the following areas:
- Operating Room
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Day Surgery
- Pain Clinic
- Ophthalmology Clinic
- Preadmission Clinic
- Perioperative Nursing Certification obtained through an approved graduate program required
- Perianesthesia Nursing Certification obtained through an approved graduate program considered an asset
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification considered an asset
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) certification required (obtained within the past 12 months)
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the standards established by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) and the Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association (OPANA)
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Meditech Expanse
- Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles, combined with recent teaching experience (within the past 2–3 years), required
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional education required
- Experience in policy and procedure development preferred
- Experience working with and/or facilitating interdisciplinary and interagency groups and committees required
- Demonstrated flexibility, organizational skills, and leadership abilities required
- Excellent physical and psychosocial assessment and intervention skills required
- Knowledge and experience in educational curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation required
- Experience in competency-based learning plan development, delivery, and evaluation required
- Experience overseeing and managing organizational and unit-level education, training needs, and completion requirements
- Self-directed professional able to function effectively with minimal supervision required
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to successfully mentor learners in a safe and supportive environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication and reporting skills required
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills required
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including keyboarding and software applications, required
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and contributing to a culture of safety and the prevention of adverse health events
- Good attendance and work record required
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset
