Key Responsibilities Record and report activities in accordance with organizational policies. Promote safe medication practices. Perform duties consistent with the scope of practice of a Pharmacy Assistant. Handle blister packs and medication packaging. Adapt communication skills to provide information and health education to diverse patient populations. Receive prescriptions and medication orders. Respond to medication alerts as directed by the Pharmacist. Select, prepare, and package medications for dispensing. Prepare labels and containers and perform medication repackaging and labelling. Monitor medication stock levels and maintain sufficient inventory to support operational requirements. Replenish medications for residential units, night cupboards, emergency boxes, first aid kits, and emergency carts/bags. Receive, reconcile, and report purchased pharmaceutical supplies. Report and assist in resolving invoice and order discrepancies. Identify expired products for disposal or manufacturer return and perform physical inventory counts as required. Maintain and audit inventory records, including narcotics and controlled substances, in accordance with organizational procedures. Educate patients regarding basic health self-care, medication use, and preventive care within scope. In consultation with the Client's healthcare team, provide referrals to community specialists when appropriate. Maintain pharmacy standards, including inventory management of medications, medical supplies, and equipment within allocated resources. Support and utilize health technology initiatives implemented by the Client, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and provincial electronic health records where available. Collaborate with the Client's healthcare manager to support planning related to healthcare service delivery. Communicate in a timely manner with the Client's healthcare professionals regarding patient care. Attend required meetings and teleconferences related to healthcare service delivery and policy implementation. Arrange for qualified Pharmacy Assistant coverage during planned absences, where required. Maintain and monitor an email account for communication with Supply Ontario and the Client. Comply with all security requirements of the Client's facility or facilities.
Qualifications and Experience Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Assistant program may be required, as determined by the Client. Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy best practices, pharmacy operations, and applicable legislation, including but not limited to the Health Care Consent Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), Ontario Hospitals Act, Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), and other relevant legislation. Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns. Experience supporting the care needs of diverse client populations, including youth and adults. Experience providing care and services to marginalized and diverse populations, including individuals who have experienced trauma. Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information in accordance with privacy legislation and organizational policies. Proficiency using pharmacy software, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and Microsoft Office applications is considered an asset.
