Company Description Throughline Film Foundation adapts significant works of literature into accessible cinematic forms to preserve cultural heritage and expand educational access. By transforming classic and contemporary texts into films, the foundation supports literacy initiatives and promotes engagement with important literary works. Its projects are designed for diverse audiences, including schools, libraries, and community organizations. The foundation collaborates with educators, artists, and cultural institutions to ensure its adaptations are both artistically compelling and pedagogically useful. Team members contribute directly to mission-driven work that connects storytelling, education, and social impact. Role Description The Charity and Nonprofit Lawyer will provide legal counsel on matters related to nonprofit governance, compliance, and charitable activities in a part-time, remote capacity.
What we are asking: Throughline Film Foundation is seeking a pro bono lawyer with experience in Canadian charity and not-for-profit law to provide legal guidance as we pursue and maintain charitable status.
We are specifically looking for someone with expertise in charities whose purposes include advancing the public’s appreciation of the arts under Canadian charity law. The successful volunteer will help advise on charitable purposes, governance, CRA compliance, and legal issues relating to operating an arts charity.
Ideal Qualifications
- Licensed lawyer in Canada.
- Experience in Canadian charity and not-for-profit law.
- Familiarity with the Income Tax Act and CRA guidance relating to registered charities.
- Experience advising charities advancing the arts or education is an asset.
Commitments
- Pro bono (volunteer).
- Flexible, remote-friendly.
- Time commitment to be discussed based on availability.
