Position: Family Support Worker – Temporary (12 months mat leave with a possible extension)

Location: 882 Maple Street, White Rock

Hours: 35 hours/week

Salary: $29.87/hourly

Start Date: September 2nd, 2026

End Date: September 2, 2026 (with a possible extension)

We are looking for a Family Support Worker to join our Child & Family Services team! Ideally, this individual must be compassionate, self-efficient, and have experience working with children and families.

Description Of Position

Reporting to: Child & Family Services Manager

The Family Support Worker will provide services as contracted by MCFD, including protective family intervention and reunification services, family development response, and visitation and access services to families referred by MCFD. The goal is to support the preservation and/or reunification of the family unit. Working closely with the Family Services team and MCFD social workers, the Family Worker will provide outreach services, including but not limited to parental behavioral and interactive interventions, life skills coaching, assistance with accessing community supports, and some client transportation.

Responsibilities

Carry a caseload of 10-12 families. Provide supervised visitation and family development services. Outreach services include working with clients in their home, out-of-home living arrangements, or foster care and where possible, maintain the child in the home or reunification of the family. In consultation with the Family Services team and MCFD workers, carries out service plan interventions such as life skills training, assistance in accessing other supports and improving informal support networks to reduce identified risks. Participates in Integrated Case Management and case conferences where required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (e.g. psychology, etc.) Training in Trauma Informed Practice, attachment, and family systems an asset Prefer a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children and families struggling with multiple stressors, children who may experience behavioral and emotional difficulties, attachment issues, past trauma Basic understanding of the impacts of substance use, trauma on development, child development, parenting, attachment, finances and housing needs. Must possess valid BC driver’s license with a clean driving record Criminal record check required Excellent organizational and time management skills Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Availability to work evenings as needed Cultural sensitivity Strong understanding of the child protection system and applicable acts
