Position Summary:
The Family Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive primary care medical services, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and ongoing management of acute and chronic medical conditions across the lifespan. The Physician delivers care in outpatient clinical settings and, where authorized, virtual care, urgent care, long-term care, home care, hospital, and other community care environments, in accordance with provincial legislation, College standards, and evidence-based medical practice. Possession of additional focused practice or enhanced skills training (e.g., Emergency Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Palliative Care, Addiction Medicine, Sport and Exercise Medicine, Obstetrical Care, or Women's Health) is considered a significant asset.
What You’ll Do:
- Examine patients and obtain comprehensive medical histories to assess physical, mental, preventive, and overall health status.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic diseases, disorders, injuries, mental health concerns, and other conditions encountered in family medicine.
- Provide comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, including health promotion, disease prevention, chronic disease management, and episodic care.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory investigations, diagnostic imaging reports, electrocardiograms, screening tests, and other clinical assessments.
- Prescribe and administer medications, vaccines, and other therapeutic treatments in accordance with accepted medical practice.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment and follow-up plans for acute, chronic, preventive, and mental health concerns.
- Coordinate care and make referrals to specialists, allied health providers, and other healthcare professionals as required.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic office-based procedures, such as injections, suturing, wound care, Pap tests, minor lesion removal, and other procedures where credentialed and authorized.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans, medication regimens, or referrals as required.
- Maintain complete and accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
- Educate patients and families regarding disease prevention, screening, immunizations, lifestyle management, medication use, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including nurses, pharmacists, specialists, allied health professionals, mental health providers, and community services.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
- Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and continuing professional development activities.
You have:
- Medical degree from a recognized medical school.
- Completion of an approved residency program in Family Medicine.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure with the applicable provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons.
- Completion of enhanced skills training or focused practice experience is strongly desired but not mandatory.
- Membership in good standing with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
This is a Fee for Service position, average income range for this position in the province is between 250,000$ and 400,000$.
