Respite Support Worker
About the role
Progressive Pathways is seeking Respite Support Workers to work with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The right candidate will be able to build meaningful connection and rapport with clients and collaborating with families while ensuring a holistic approach.
If you are interactive and animated with others, easily construct natural learning opportunities, demonstrate creativity and compassionately support our clients, then you are likely a great fit for our Respite Support Worker role. You must possess a genuine desire to promote independence and well-being with strong judgement and ability to foresee potential safety concerns. We are looking for someone with prior experience supporting individuals on the Autism Spectrum or neurodiverse children/youth. Otherwise, experience working with children is mandatory.
Some career experience we are looking for: Autism/Behaviour Therapist Developmental Support Worker Child and Youth Worker Early Childhood Educator Personal Support Worker
Duties Reliable mode of transportation to client's home Implement activities and staying engaged with the client Follow through on the client's LIFE Plan as written by the Director with caregiver's input - which address challenges and builds skills based upon the client's current strengths Communicate with caregiver as needed and feel comfortable in an autonomous position of trust within the client's home Complete and submit a short end of session summary report Ensure client's safety and well being while in your care Maintain ongoing communication with the Director
Skills Understanding of behavioral principles or willingness to learn and implement Ability to regularly demonstrate patience, compassion and respect for the client & caregivers Strong verbal and written communication skills
Mandatory Qualifications Recent Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Current professional liability insurance
Preferred Qualifications First Aid & CPR-C
