Job Summary & Requirements

The Clinical Educator plays a key leadership role in implementing the Substance Use Disorder Integrated Care Pathway (SUD ICP) within the Emergency Department and Mental Health and Addictions Program. This role supports the adoption of standardized, evidence-informed clinical workflows and ensures staff are prepared to deliver high-quality, coordinated care. The purpose of the project is to implement the provincial Substance Use Disorders Integrated Care Pathway (SUD ICP) within RVH’s Emergency Department and Mental Health and Addictions Program, to improve access to coordinated, evidence-informed substance use care and strengthen integration across hospital and community settings. Specifically, the project aims to:

Improve the health and well-being of people who use substances by increasing access to high-quality, evidence-informed care that is respectful, trauma-informed, and compassionate. Enhance integration across primary, acute, and community care by strengthening coordination between mental health, addictions, and medical services to improve client and system outcomes. Increase access to substance use disorder services that are culturally safe, culturally grounded, effective, and accessible for Indigenous clients.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of clinical education strategies to support SUD ICP workflows and care processes Enable safe, effective, and standardized care for patients with substance use disorders Contribute to the development of order sets, clinical pathways, and care transition processes aligned with SUD ICP standards Design and deliver staff education, training, and onboarding programs for new clinical workflows, protocols, and documentation practices Collaborate with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, informatics, and project teams to ensure clinical alignment and readiness Support workflow implementation and practice change, promoting consistency and adherence to evidence-informed care Integrate trauma-informed, patient-centered approaches into education and clinical practice Reinforce best practices and support continuous quality improvement through ongoing education and feedback Support successful project implementation and staff readiness for go-live Strengthen care coordination across hospital and community services

As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:

Education:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree preferred. Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required. Current Certification in Crisis Prevention Institute – Non-Violent Crisis Intervention required. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification preferred. Must maintain CNA Certification. Specialty certificate from approved institution preferred. Current BCLS is required. Adult education certificate or courses required.

Experience:

Minimum of five years full time or equivalent clinical practice experience with demonstrated clinical excellence in Mental Health required. Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario Membership (RNAO) required. Previous Clinical Nurse Educator experience required. Demonstrated unit leadership roles required. Knowledge of professional guidelines and standards required. Knowledge of government legislation influencing professional practice required. Demonstrated and well-developed communication skills required. Policy and Procedure, order set, documentation forms and Medical Directive development experience required Experience developing and delivering evidence-based education opportunities for nurses and allied staff Experience collaborating with interprofessional teams to design and implement protocols and guidelines Computer skills an asset.
