Role Overview
As a Genetic Counselor , you will assess the likelihood of inherited or familial diseases and guide patients and families through understanding genetic conditions, testing options, and implications for care and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assessing the risk of inherited or familial diseases using patient medical history and family health data Educating patients and families on genetic inheritance, laboratory testing, and relevant research findings Supporting patients as they adapt to and cope with genetically inherited conditions Helping patients understand the personal and familial impact of genetic diseases Collaborating with clinical teams to support patient ‑ centered care
About BayCare Genetic Counseling Services
BayCare's Genetic Counseling team provides comprehensive risk assessment and genetic testing services for individuals and families who may be affected by inherited health conditions. Through education, counseling, and personalized support, the team helps patients understand genetic risks, interpret test results, and make informed decisions about their healthcare. Working in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other specialists, our genetic counseling professionals play a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care across the BayCare system.
Qualifications
Education
Required
:
Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling
Experience
Preferred
:
One (1) year of Genetic Counseling experience New graduates will be considered and trained accordingly
Licensure / Certification
Required
:
Genetic Counseling certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) OR Board ‑ certification eligible within six (6) months State of Florida Genetic Counseling License What We Offer
