With the launch of new Early Childhood Education (ECE) cohorts in the Kelowna and Vernon regions, Western Community College (WCC) invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of ECE Instructor

Job Title: Early Childhood Educator Instructor

The Instructors in the Early Childhood Education Program shall be appointed by the ECE Program Coordinator of Western Community College upon the recommendation of the President and the Dean of Programs. The salary and terms of employment shall be fixed by the Dean upon the recommendation of the President. This position reports to the ECE Program Coordinator or as designated by the President.

Responsibilities

These are two fixed-term contract positions within the Early Childhood Education program. The primary responsibility is course instruction delivered in both face-to-face and virtual learning formats. In addition to the general faculty responsibilities outlined in the College’s Personnel Manual, the ECE Instructor will be responsible for the following:

  1. Teach within the Early Childhood Education courses as scheduled.
  2. Assess all assignments and promptly post grades for exams and assignments on the College database, keeping all grades confidential.
  3. Collaborate with other faculty and administration as needed.
  4. Review and revise common syllabi for courses taught each semester based on feedback from other instructors, students and the Program Coordinator.
  5. Assist with course revisions, including rubrics for major assignments, final assessments, selection of textbooks and other resource materials as requested.
  6. Assist in writing and revision of program-related handbooks as needed.
  7. Advise potential ECE students on enrollment requirements.
  8. Monitor and maintain portions of ECE Alumni eSite.
  9. Participate in ECE Advisory Committee.
  10. Attend external ECE meetings as requested.
  11. Co-facilitate orientation meetings for Practicum Host Site staff, in conjunction with the ECE Program Coordinator as requested.
  12. Co-facilitate orientation meetings for students prior to their practicum experiences, in conjunction with the ECE Program Coordinator as requested.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the ECE Program Coordinator, the Dean of Programs, or as designated by the President.

Education/ Experience Required

Successful candidates will have the following as a minimum: • Minimally a diploma in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Care and Education and two (2) years of full-time work experience within an Early Childhood setting. OR • Ten (10) years of full-time work experience within the Early Childhood Field. AND • Member in good standing with the ECE Registry. • Follow the Code of Ethics as outlined by the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC). • Available to teach at multiple campuses • Able to periodically travel between Surrey and Abbotsford for other non-teaching related responsibilities such as meetings. • Flexibility to teach evening/weekend classes as assigned. • Sound computer proficiency required especially in Microsoft365, PowerPoint and database input for grading. Distance education teaching experience preferred.

Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract Location: Hybrid Cohort 2 (Kooteney)- April 27, 2026- December 18, 2026 from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday
