Job Description: Under the direction of the Primary Health Care Manager, the Program Development Educator (PDE) integrates knowledge and skill reflective of the Health Services models of care and principles of adult learning, in the provision of education, research, and quality client centered care for a defined group of clients. The incumbent will provide visible, proactive leadership and promote the delivery of client centered care through identified education and programming. In collaboration with the Manager, the PDE is responsible for assessing learning needs of staff. The Program Development Educator will use a collaborative and consultative approach in the development of research based guidelines, processes and protocols that meet the needs of care providers and provide support to health care professionals as appropriate. This position will have specific responsibilities related to the specialized needs of clients within Primary Health Care including Palliative Care Services (Palliative Care Inpatient Unit and Palliative Home Care) and Home Care Services. The accountability for achieving the Primary Health Care goals and outcomes is shared by all Primary Health Services departments and therefore this position works within a matrix of relationships.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing

Competencies

  • Computer skills
  • Clinical data analysis skills.

Experience

  • Three (3) years experience in the specific clinical area
  • Requires experience in program/resource development related to needs assessment.
  • Experience in teaching adults, facilitation skills, and leading group activities
  • Experience using EMR and InterRAI assessment tools will be considered an asset

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to apply and educate research to clinical practice
  • Demonstrates ability to plan & carry out responsibilities w/ minimal supervision
  • Knowledge in principles of adult education
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Standards and application of such
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Articulates theory and knowledge related to client centered care
  • Ability to be self directed and work relatively independently
  • Demonstrates ability in teaching, facilitation and group activities
  • Ability to adapt to and implement change
  • Ability to integrate knowledge and experience to enhance clinical practice.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work.
  • Travel allowance is provided.
  • Community based position provides services in clinic/home settings in PHC Regina
  • Travel required to various community sites within Regina PHC Networks
  • Home base for this position is: 2180 23rd Avenue (WRC).
  • Scheduled hours of work may be reduced when a statutory holiday is recognized
