About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Behaviour Specialist to join our Therapy Services Team. Therapy Services at the BC Centre for Ability includes the Early Intervention Therapy Program, Provincial Outreach Therapy Program, the North Shore School Occupational Therapy Program, the Community Brain Injury Program, and SET-BC. 

The Behaviour Specialist will be working as part of a team to deliver behavioural support to families in our Early Intervention Therapy Program. This position will work with regional teams that also include Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and Social Workers. The Early Intervention Therapy Program focuses on helping the child succeed in their daily routines and participate in home and community life. The behaviour specialist will work with the interdisciplinary teams to provide services to children within the context of their family and community environments. Effective collaboration, communication, and organizational skills will be paramount for this position. Services will be delivered in family homes, in clinic, community settings, and virtual platforms. Departmental assignments are subject to operational and departmental needs. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide education and implement behavioural and therapeutic programs using a coaching approach to increase participation at home and in the community

  • Administer, conduct, evaluate and supervise behavioural assessments which aid in the designing of positive behaviour support plans

  • Use Evidence-Based Practice and a Family-Centred approach to deliver behaviour services

  • Use a Trauma-Informed approach to deliver services

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support children and families in their communities 

  • Provide mentorship and education to colleagues around the province

  • Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, medical liaison meetings, and in-services

  • Maintain up-to-date records that meet agency and regulatory body requirements

  • Collaborate with community partners

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as directed

Qualifications

 

Education, Training and Experience

  • Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)-an accredited graduate degree, proof of coursework in behaviour analysis and a supervised period of practical experience

OR

Master’s or Doctoral degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Psychology, or Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) from an accredited post-secondary institution

  • A minimum 2-years’ experience working in pediatrics is preferred

  • PROVEN ORGANIZATION AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED

  • COMPETENCY USING A VIRTUAL PLATFORM, ELECTRONIC CLIENT RECORD SYSTEM AND WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE

  • REGISTRATION WITH A PROFESSIONAL REGULATORY BODY OR CERTIFICATION BOARD 

  • VALID CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

  • VALID BC DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH RELIABLE USE OF A CAR FOR WORK WITH BUSINESS INSURANCE

  • PHYSICAL ABILITY TO CARRY OUT THE DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  • Works hours are generally 8:30am-4:30pm
