The Pet Cancer Foundation operates in both Canada and the United States, maintaining a 100% remote and distributed volunteer team. The organization was founded in 2019, and incorporated as non-profit corporations in Canada (2020) and the United States (2021). As of March 2026, we have 150+ team members working towards our informational goals of delivering high-quality pet health and cancer information to pet owners everywhere.

About The Pet Cancer Foundation

The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates suggest that 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.

As the organization continues to work towards the accomplishment of our mission, the PCF team includes professionals contributing virtually across Canada, the United States, and several other countries worldwide. As we grow and require technological solutions to support our many efforts, we're in need of experienced Technical Writers to help us build the documentation that supports our many teams. The position

The Pet Cancer Foundation is searching for volunteer Technical Writers who are responsible for creating and maintaining clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for their assigned departments to successfully execute their duties. This position requires collaboration with various internal stakeholders to fully understand each position’s duties, our standard operating procedures, processes, and quality benchmarks, while articulating that information effectively in the documentation for our teams. The deliverables will include, but are not limited to, SOPs, training materials, communication guides, and other team/department-dependent operational documents.

Duties And Responsibilities

Engage with internal stakeholders to understand all departmental roles, their duties and responsibilities, and the processes, benchmarks, and standards required to meet organizational goals and objectives. Develop high-quality, understandable technical documentation, including SOPs, training materials, communication guides, and other types of required operational documents for the operations of the department. Regularly revise and update technical documentation in alignment with any department and process changes, improvements, or updates. Translate standards, benchmarks, specifications, and information into lucid, accessible language suitable for all users. Conduct necessary research to thoroughly understand the technical aspects of the department’s work and purpose to inform the drafting of documents that support the team’s successful execution of their duties. Evaluate existing documentation for clarity and opportunities for improvement, and implement revisions as needed. Structure and manage the organization of our technical documentation, ensuring all materials are easily locatable and accessible to users.

About You

You are a meticulous communicator with a keen eye for detail, always striving for clarity in every document you craft. Your innate curiosity drives you to deeply understand complex topics, enabling you to simplify and convey them seamlessly to varied audiences. Collaborative by nature, you thrive in team environments, forging strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike. Your adaptability and problem-solving skills ensure that you rise to challenges, always committed to delivering accurate and user-friendly documentation. Above all, you possess an unwavering passion for educating readers through concise, well-structured, and engaging technical guides.You have

Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of technical writing experience or relevant documentation development. A portfolio that showcases a variety of technical documentation, including manuals, user guides, and online help pages. Ability to work closely with various team members to gather and interpret information. Rigorous attention to detail, ensuring the clarity, accuracy, and comprehensiveness of documentation. Willingness to adapt to evolving processes, ensuring that documentation remains current.

This position works virtually from anywhere in the United States or Canada. Expectations regarding a time commitment are in the range of 4-6 hours per week on average. Additional time and flexibility may be necessary at times, and your flexibility to adapt is an attribute we seek.
