We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Leader to guide daily clinical operations and champion excellence in resident‑centred care. Reporting to the Operations Leader, the Clinical Nurse Leader oversees the day‑to‑day functioning of an assigned nursing unit, offering direct supervision, mentorship, and clinical expertise to staff. This role partners closely with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, evidence‑informed practice and a consistently high standard of care. The Clinical Nurse Leader also supports staff development by identifying learning needs, contributing to orientation and ongoing education, and fostering a culture of professional growth. In addition, the role plays an active part in advancing research, evidence‑based practice, and quality‑improvement initiatives across the program. Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. What You Bring Education Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant, qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area Three (3) years of recent related experience in clinical specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. **For Clinical Nurse Leader vacancies in mental health services and in extended and intermediate care services, positions will be dual posted for Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or a practicing RPN registrant. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service. Skilled at navigating and promoting change within the care environment. Models effective strategies for resolving interpersonal and team conflicts. Communicates clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats. Applies sound analytical thinking to clinical and operational decisions. Teaches, coaches, and collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary team members. Organizes workload, matches staff skills to clinical needs, and operates required equipment safely. Your Day to Day: Coordinates daily patient/resident care activities by supervising staff, monitoring work, assigning duties, calling in relief staff, authorizing overtime, and resolving staffing issues. Monitors patient/resident acuity and flow, adjusting staffing levels and assignments as needs change. Acts as a clinical resource to staff, students, and the interdisciplinary team by demonstrating procedures, answering questions, and troubleshooting clinical concerns. Participates in rounds/clinics and collaborates with nursing staff in assessing patient/resident needs, planning care, and implementing and evaluating interventions. Coordinates and arranges consultations with Physicians, Nurse Consultants, and other disciplines as required. Advocates for patients/residents and families by communicating concerns and intervening when necessary. Provides direct nursing care, including taking on patient/resident assignments as needed. Supports staff development by contributing to orientation, identifying learning needs, delivering education sessions, mentoring staff, and supporting conflict resolution. Contributes to performance management, policy review, and practice improvements by providing input on coaching, procedures, equipment, supplies, and staffing needs. Participates in quality improvement and research initiatives by identifying opportunities, supporting implementation, evaluating outcomes, and applying findings to practice.
