About the role
ERCCA is hiring multiple positions for our newest out of school care program, ERCCA Richard Secord. Positions available include split shifts 7-10am/3-6pm and part time positions 7-10am or 3-6pm.
Level 2 or 3 educators will be considered for full time positions
Level 1 educators will be considered for part time positions.
Position Title: Child Care Educator
Reporting to: Assistant Director/ Director
Minimum Qualifications: Level 1/2/3 ECE Certification issued by the Province of Alberta
Summary of Responsibilities: Responsible for program delivery, communication, administration and health and safety. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, reflective practice and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- PROGRAM DELIVERY
- Work with childcare team in implementing programming.
- Create a program which is reflective of the values and goals of the Flight Framework & pyramid practice,and other essential early childhood theories.
- Engage in planning cycle, completing the required documentation from observations, to planning and implementation.
- Communicate with families regarding program activities and expectations.
- Communicate all pertinent information to other educators regarding program needs or requirements.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Assistant Director, Director or Executive Director.
- Be aware of and engage in a way which is aligned with the ERCCA Code of Ethics and guiding principles.
- Work in partnership with the pedagogical team. Implement change as necessary based on feedback.
- WORKING WITH CHILDREN
- Actively supervise children at all times.
- Always maintain child/educator ratios.
- Create and maintain positive relationships with children and their families.
- Encourage children to foster autonomy and self-regulation to be responsible for themselves and their actions.
- Foster well-being and a strong sense of belonging in all children in the program.
- Model appropriate behaviours.
- Guide children’s behaviour according to the Behaviour Guidance Policy.
- Encourage the development of healthy self-esteem and positive identities.
- HEALTH & SAFETY
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment for the children by following the Health and Safety Policy.
- Be familiar with all specific individual health circumstances, which may include allergies, cultural preferences or other relevant medical issues that may require medication or specific attention.
- Ensure that all private information regarding children and families is kept confidential.
- Understand and comply with the Food/Nutrition Policy.
- Ensure cleanliness and proper storage of materials and equipment in the childcare room.
- Report any toys, games, equipment or furniture that are not in good repair and arrange for their disposal or repair.
- Participate in daily and weekly cleaning of the centre. Complete daily checklists to document cleaning,disinfecting toys and equipment, hazards and playground safety.
- Perform first aid as required.
- ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate regularly with families regarding their children.
- Be familiar with and implement all ERCCA Personnel and Program policies and procedures.
- Ensure that proper procedures are followed at opening and closing.
- Verify all child absences and ensure attendance records are accurate. Inform the Assistant Director/Director of any attendance irregularities.
- Keep accurate records of time of time spent with children.
- Keep a list of groceries and supplies as required.
- Ensure that the emergency binder is present in the same room as the children.
- Be familiar with evacuation procedures.
- Follow the Sign In/Sign Out policy and procedures.
- Observe interests and needs of the children and implement observations into planning.
- Communicate to the Assistant Director/ Director any information regarding the well-being of the children, families and program.
- Attend any meetings as requested by the Director or Executive Director.
5.OTHER
- Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Pedagogical Team, Assistant Director, Director, or Executive Director.
- Read articles/research to keep current with trends and practices in Early Childhood Education and Health and Safety Practices.
