About the role

Your Opportunity:

Under minimal supervision the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for providing direct patient care to assist in the activities of comfort and safety of the patient. This position also assists with patient flow in the Cardiac Recovery Room, ensuring that the service is delivered in an efficient, effective and safe manner. The HCA may assist with movement of patients to and from procedures. The incumbent monitor’s inventory supplies in the work areas and may order supplies as required. HCA’s are responsible and accountable for the tasks and support functions assigned to them, and for understanding tasks or functions they are able and not able to perform in a particular setting

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Formal Education: Minimum essential education qualification of the job. A Health Care Aide certificate from a recognized Health Care Aide program is required. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written English. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients / families, visitors and team members. Effective time management skills. Experience: Type of Experience and Length of Experience. Previous health care experience an asset. License(s) / Certificate(s): May include certification to perform certain duties/courses for certain areas. BCLS-HCP certification required.
