As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Lead, Psychological Health and Safety reports to the Senior Director of Inter-professional Practice, has a matrix reporting into the corporate Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) team and is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of PHS initiatives, systems, and processes to protect and prevent psychological injury in the workplace. The Lead is an innovator, knowledge translator, facilitator and change agent, accountable for developing & delivering the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Program and PHS educational programs, initiatives and written resources for of BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS).

Working in close partnership with the corporate PHS team, Directors, Program Managers and other Professional Practice Leaders across BCMHSUS, the Lead evaluates current state PHS strengths and risks, presents assessment. findings, recommends effective and sustainable initiatives, and implementation plans that takes into account the different BCMHSUS Program requirements including clients constraints, completing demands and current realities. Utilizing evidence-based approaches and strategies that leaders can utilize to enhance the psychological health and safety of their work environment, and support employees who are experiencing psychological health issues or disorders. The Lead is responsible for representing and providing leadership, consultation and direction and direct service to create and sustain a psychologically healthy and safe workplace.

Duties/Accountabilities

Provides leadership in creating, articulating, innovating and sustaining an organization wide vision for psychological health and safety including CISM. Supports strong collaboration through the development of structures, processes and mechanisms that support the implementation of the Canadian national standard for psychological health and safety. Utilizes and models effective change management strategies to achieve systems level transformation. Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation of systems and processes to protect and prevent psychological injury in the workplace. Supports organizational strategy deployment, ensuring that psychological health and safety priorities are aligned with organization and provincial strategic priorities. Tracks, analyzes and reports progress in relation to designated performance indicators. Develops and/or guides development with Leaders, of systems, mechanisms and structures that support employees in exercising accountability and responsibility in mitigating the psychosocial risk factors that define a psychologically healthy workplace. Monitors expenditures within established budgets, identifies efficiencies, and promotes optimal use of resources. Makes recommendations on current and future program and service adjustments. In collaboration with relevant leader(s), participates in the review and resolution of psychological health and safety issues across the programs and within specific programs. In collaboration with relevant Professional Practice Leaders, leads and directs progressive psychological health and safety plans as required. Represents the assigned portfolios in decision making forums, including Senior operational forums, for education, research, strategic planning, quality and other defined organizational level work. Collaborates with Leaders and other stakeholders in the development of the system wide quality improvement and risk management programs through facilitation of structures, processes and strategies to promote evidenced based practice that contributes to a psychologically healthy and safe workforce. Establishes a systems wide framework and process to assess, monitor and evaluate Psychological Health and Safety work. Directs development and delivery of education programs and other knowledge translation strategies regarding psychological health and safety as required. Leads, mentors and enhances psychological health and safety scholarship within and across assigned professional and service groups. Collaborates and engages with Leaders as required to facilitate planning, innovation and problem solving and monitors progress toward the achievement of established objectives. Participates in organizational strategic planning for the development of a high functioning health human workforce team. In collaboration with Leaders participates in strategic planning of current and future Psychological Health and Safety needs, organizational priorities and capacity. Performs other organizational projects as required.

Qualifications

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or other relevant health care discipline plus a minimum of five (5) years in a project planning or leadership role in a health, social services, government, or community organization. Experience working in the MHSU sector is preferred. Experience managing complex system change and/or quality improvement initiatives and projects is required. Extensive experience conducting evidence-informed practice reviews, including literature searching, policy analysis, and synthesis, and oral and written presentation of findings to a range of audiences. Knowledge of content areas including: mental health, substance use, clinical practice, quality improvement tools and techniques, complex adaptive systems, change management, implementation science, and knowledge exchange.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in facilitation of workplace psychological health for employees and education. Comprehensive knowledge of organization mission, vision, values, strategic directions and goals. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Demonstrated skill and ability in designing flexible strategies and to develop project plans and implement new projects by problem solving and leading change. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, including the ability to adjust to new or unexpected events. Demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively within the team and ability to function as an effective leader, coach, mentor and facilitator. Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, and external agencies. Demonstrated experience in education planning, development, evaluation and leadership, and a commitment to continuous learning and to participate in and support the learning of others. Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
