About the role

Education: College/CEGEP. Work setting: Chronic or long-term care facilities/centres. Hospital or home for the aged. Nursing home/home for the aged. Tasks: Assess patients' physical abilities. Assist health care professionals. Assist physicians in the assessment of patients. Carry out treatment programs, under the direction of physiotherapists and/or occupational therapists, to rehabilitate patients with various injuries or disabilities. Develop information materials for patients. Examine the patient. Follow through on treatment programs with patients. Help physical therapists. Make decisions on tests and procedures. Position patients for treatments by chiropractor or machine. Set up and dismantle equipment. Supervise technical and support staff. Administer evaluative tests and procedures. Clean and maintain equipment. Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies. Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and instrumentation for re-use according to standardized safety practices. Plan physiotherapy programs. Select appropriate exercises, apparatus and manipulations. Collect statistics. Maintain clinical and progress reports. Confer with other health professionals. Maintain inventory of equipment. Conduct research in physiotherapy. Document patient rehabilitation progress. Perform general clerical duties. Process files and paperwork. Teach and/or supervise exercises to patients. Order supplies and equipment. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
