ISSP Counsellor (Integrated School Support Program)
Location: Notre Dame Elementary School, Bonnyville AB
Position Type: Full-time
Term: Commencing August 17, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year (with the possibility of extension)
Lakeland Catholic School Division is seeking a qualified ISSP Counsellor to support the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP) at Notre Dame Elementary School in Bonnyville, AB.
The ISSP is a province-wide initiative that promotes student success, resilience, and well-being through wraparound services embedded within schools. In partnership with the Calgary Police Youth Foundation (CPYF), the ISSP Counsellor provides counselling, prevention, and early intervention supports for students while working collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners in a Catholic school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individual and group counselling, consultation, and intervention services. Identify and support learning, behavioural, and emotional challenges through assessment and programming. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to strengthen classroom environments that support student regulation and engagement. Consult with external professionals (e.g., psychologists, physicians, social workers, community agencies) to coordinate care. Participate in school-based team meetings and assist with student support planning. Support families through communication, advocacy, and connection to community resources. Maintain accurate records and contribute to required program data and reporting. Complete the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative “Brain Story Certification” within 12 months of hire.
Qualifications
Applicants Must Hold a Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In a Relevant Field, Along With Registration (or Eligibility For Registration) With The Appropriate Professional Body. Acceptable Designations Include
Registered, Clinical, or Educational Psychologist Social Worker (BSW or MSW) able to provide counselling and advocacy Registered Social Worker (RSW) Occupational Therapist (Bachelor's or Master's) with mental health experience Psychiatric Nurse, Registered Nurse, or Registered Psychiatric Nurse specializing in mental health Unlicensed Counsellors registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) and/or the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA)
Assets
Experience providing mental health services in a school or community setting. Knowledge of trauma-informed and strength-based practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and case management skills. Commitment to supporting the mission and faith life of Catholic education.
