Nursing Statement:

Nursing is a self-regulated profession governed through the College. A nurse is responsible for practicing in accordance with the standards of the profession, and for keeping current and competent throughout his/her nursing career (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2009).

Qualifications:

• College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the Extended Class (NP-Primary Health Care or NP-Adult) required
• Baccalaureate In Nursing (BScN) required
• Masters Degree in Nursing (MScN or MN) required
• CNA Certification of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing preferred
• Current BLS certification required
• Current GPA or NVCI preferred

Principal Duties:

• To function as a Nurse Practitioner working in collaboration with other health care professionals to enhance the provision of quality care in Mental Health and Addiction Services settings- Eating Disorder Program
• Participates in a comprehensive assessment of clients including vital signs, weight, systems and functional review, cognition screening, vision and hearing assessments
• Assists with assessment, treatment, planning and coordination of client care.
• Consults with physician/psychiatrist when the client’s condition requires care beyond the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice
• Maintains current knowledge of mental health nursing and interdisciplinary practice
• Act as a role model and provide leadership in clinical practice, education, research, and quality management.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to best meet the needs of both the client and their family
• Support and embrace the philosophy of Service Excellence and Patient and Family-Centred Care
• Participate in building a culture of safety and partnering with each other to improve the safety of client care processes and systems
• Interact with others in a way that advances the goals of the organization through co-operative working relation.
• Perform reflecting the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of Bluewater Health
• Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
• Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
• Acts as a coach, mentor, resource and positive role model for new staff and students
• Other related duties as assigned
