About the role
Overview Role Type: Full-time, Permanent — On-site Compensation: $25 per hour Reports To: Fleet Manager Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM start. Saturday overtime available. Location: 25 Connell Ct #1, Etobicoke, ON Posted: June 4 — Posting closes when we find the right perso The Role At Furniture Bank, you aren't delivering packages — you're delivering a home. Every stop on your route is a family waiting for a bed, a table, a couch. The sweat is real. So is the impact. As a Driver, you'll lead a crew, manage your route, and be the face of our mission at the door. Is this role for you? (The honest truth) Before you apply, read this carefully. Most people who've left this role in the past weren't prepared for the reality of it. The physical toll: You will lift up to 75 lbs. You will do this in July heat and February slush. If you don't enjoy physical work, you will hate this job. The emotional weight: You will enter homes at people's most vulnerable moments — moves after displacement, estates, fresh starts. You need the emotional intelligence to lead your crew and support clients simultaneously. The pace: Families are waiting for beds. We have a schedule to keep. If punctuality or GTA navigation aren't strengths, this isn't the fit. The reward: You will see the direct impact of your work every single day. That's not something most jobs can offer. AI-forward mindset: We use AI in our day-to-day work to create efficiency and focus our energy where it matters. We're not looking for AI experts — just people who are open to AI being an integral part of how we operate. What you’ll do Lead the crew: Manage, motivate, and support your team of 1–2 helpers across 5–8 stops per day. The heavy lifting: Safely load and unload furniture using hand-bomb technique and dollies. Route mastery: Navigate routes across the GTA efficiently and communicate accurate arrival times to donors and clients. Internal communication: Report on-road issues, client concerns, and pickup or delivery changes to dispatch in real time. Client advocacy: Ensure furniture is placed and set up in the client's home according to their needs — every time. Fleet care: Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintain your truck like you own it. A clean driver's abstract is required; we pull abstracts as part of onboarding. Social proofing: Be comfortable recording daily moments on your phone for social media and requesting Google reviews from donors and clients. What we need you to bring Experience & Licensing Valid Ontario Class G licence minimum; DZ preferred. 3+ years of continuous heavy vehicle experience (4,500 kg GVW or greater) with supporting documentation. Clean driver's abstract. Demonstrated ability to lead a small crew in a fast-paced, physical environment. Skills & Attributes Strong GTA navigation and route awareness. Clear, timely communication with dispatch and clients. Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs repeatedly throughout the day with proper technique. Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions year-round. Openness to recording content and engaging with donors and clients on behalf of the brand Values & Approach Strong written and spoken English. Alignment with our values: Empathy, Integrity, Collaboration, Resilience, Change Agent. Conditions of employment A valid Ontario Class G licence (minimum) is required. DZ licence holders are welcome and valued. What matters most — to us and to our commercial fleet insurer — is verifiable heavy vehicle driving experience. We require a minimum of 3 years of continuous experience operating vehicles 4,500 kg GVW or greater. You'll need to provide: A Letter of Experience (LOE) from a prior employer or insurer specifying vehicle model and GVW A clean driver's abstract Candidates with 1–3 years of heavy vehicle experience may still be considered. Insurance surcharges apply and eligibility is subject to underwriter review with supporting documentation. Compensation & benefits $25/hour starting rate Full extended health benefits after 3 months (dental, vision, prescription) Paid vacation and sick time Monday–Friday schedule with Saturday overtime available On-site parking Three short questions we'd like you to answer Include your answers alongside your application. Two to four sentences each is plenty — we're looking for thoughtfulness, not length. Experience & documentation: Walk us through your heavy vehicle experience — vehicle type, approximate GVW, and the driving context. What documentation (LOE, abstract, certifications) can you provide? Leadership on the road: Describe a time you had to manage a difficult situation in the field — with a client, a crew member, or an unexpected problem. What happened and how did you handle it? Why Furniture Bank: What specifically about Furniture Bank's mission brought you to apply? We read every answer — be direct. AI in our hiring process Furniture Bank does not use AI to screen, score, or filter applications. Every application is reviewed by a member of our team. We may use AI tools elsewhere in our work, and we’ll talk openly about that during interviews. How to apply Apply directly through our careers page at furniturebank.org/careers. Posting closes when we find the right person. Accommodations Furniture Bank is committed to an inclusive, accessible recruitment process under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code. If you need an accommodation at any stage of the application or interview process, please reach out through our careers page and we’ll work with you in confidence.
