Position Title:
9-8-8 Crisis Line Responder
Position Summary:
KCR Community Resources is seeking a compassionate and skilled Crisis Line Responder to support individuals contacting the 9-8-8 national line by phone and/or text. This role provides short-term emotional support, crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and connection to appropriate resources. The Crisis Line Responder may also support third parties who contact 9-8-8 on behalf of someone they are concerned about.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Crisis Line Manager
Prime Functions:
Respond to 9-8-8 calls and texts
- Respond to phone calls and/or texting interactions during scheduled shifts
- Provide short-term, non-judgmental emotional support, which includes assessment, problem solving, and exploring resources for service users
- Complete risk assessment, safety planning, and de-escalation with service users
- Engage emergency services when an intervention is required
Documentation and Administration:
- Provide interaction updates to responders on the next shift, debrief with supervisor or support staff as needed or required
- Complete follow up on 3rd party outreach calls as required, following all policies, procedures and privacy laws
- Maintain accurate and detailed reports
- Be familiar with local and national resources and relay information to service users as needed
- Regularly review policies and procedures, training manuals, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical and legal standards as outlined in Policies and Procedures
- Complete legally required reporting when necessary
- Attend responder/staff meetings/additional training sessions as required
- Participate in mentoring new responders as directed
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field with preference to a degree
- Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written and verbal communication skills – outgoing, positive and friendly personality
- Demonstrated initiative to enhance skills, knowledge, and attitude for crisis intervention and suicide prevention work
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, typing skills
- Able to maintain professional boundaries
