Assistant Chaplain (Full Time)
About the role
This position assists in planning, developing, and implementing the Spiritual and Religious services of Wing Kei. The Assistant Chaplain supports the physical, social and emotional needs of the residents, in accordance with Wing Kei’s resident centered approach, relevant government standards, and residents’ rights.
THE ROLE
Key Accountabilities

Provides social, emotional and spiritual support to residents.

Assists in facilitating supportive relationships with local faith groups and the public, and supports the coordinator with spiritual and religious activities.

Works with the Chaplain, volunteers and other team members to address the spiritual and emotional needs of the residents, families and staff to ensure quality care.

Maintains confidentiality and respects the diverse faith traditions of residents, families and staff.

Researches and collects information to prepare for spiritual training and education to volunteers and staff. Provides continuing education and supervision to volunteers.

Maintains effective communication and good relationships with residents, families, significant others, as well as the public, volunteers and other staff members.

Participates as a team member in co-operation with other departments to ensure the quality care of the residents.

Attends interdepartmental meetings as required. Participates in team and family conferences as required, provides input in problem solving process.

Conducts and documents the initial and ongoing Spiritual Assessments to capture comprehensive information regarding residents’ spiritual histories, faith preferences, cultural traditions and significant emotional or psychosocial observations.

Provides support for the Palliative Care of residents as needed. Visits with residents to offer emotional and spiritual support through conversation, prayer and presence.
THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED
- Has completed a Bachelor’s degree in theology, spiritual studies, or equivalent.
- Experience in a senior care setting is an asset.
- Possesses good interpersonal skills.
- Has completed 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
