About the role
Securiguard is seeking a highly capable and experienced Emergency ManagementFire Safety Specialist to support healthcare security operations within the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) portfolio.
This specialized field-based role is responsible for supporting fire and life safety readiness, emergency preparedness, incident response coordination, compliance monitoring, and fire prevention initiatives across assigned healthcare facilities. Working closely with healthcare leadership, facilities teams, clinical staff, and security personnel, the Emergency ManagementFire Safety Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, physicians, and visitors.
DutiesResponsibilities:
- Serve as a lead resource for fire and life safety operations across assigned VCH healthcare sites
- Support and coordinate emergency responses during Code Red events, fire alarms, evacuations, and shelter-in-place procedures
- Monitor and assist with fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, fire panels, and other life safety systems
- Lead and coordinate fire drills, emergency preparedness exercises, and evacuation training activities
- Conduct fire safety inspections and ensure documentation and compliance with applicable fire safety regulations and standards
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of fire safety plans and emergency response procedures
- Identify fire and life safety risks and recommend mitigation strategies in collaboration with site leadership and facilities teams
- Provide fire safety education, orientation, and ongoing training to healthcare security professionals and site personnel
- Participate in disaster preparedness, mass-casualty, and healthcare emergency management exercises
- Collaborate with clinical teams, integrated protection services, facilities, and external emergency response agencies when required
- Support post-incident debriefs and after-action reviews to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate records related to drills, inspections, incidents, training, and compliance requirements
- Support healthcare accreditation and fire safety compliance initiatives across the portfolio
- Act as a liaison between healthcare leadership, security teams, and responding agencies during emergency events
- Assist in maintaining monthly fire extinguisher inspections and coordinating annual inspections and testing programs
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, communication, and relational security within healthcare environments
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fire safety, emergency management, healthcare security, or life safety operations
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Demonstrated experience with fire alarm panels, fire suppression systems, sprinkler systems, and life safety systems
- Strong understanding of BC Fire Code, emergency response procedures, evacuation protocols, and fire prevention practices
- Experience leading or supporting fire drills, Code Red responses, and emergency preparedness exercises
- Knowledge of healthcare emergency management principles and healthcare facility operations is considered a strong asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and incident management abilities during emergency situations
- Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Post-secondary education in Fire Protection, Emergency Management, Occupational HealthSafety, or a related field is an asset
- NFPA certifications, Fire Prevention Officer certification, or related fire safety credentials are considered an asset
