Interior Health is seeking three permanent full-time Communications & Engagement Consultants to help tell the story of healthcare across the communities we serve. In this strategic role, you will partner with leaders across the organization to develop and deliver impactful communications and engagement initiatives that inform, engage, and connect communities, partners, and stakeholders to Interior Health's priorities, services, and vision.

Salary range for the position is $76,111 to $109,409. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How Will You Create An Impact

The Communications & Engagement Consultant provides strategic and tactical communications and engagement expertise to support Interior Health (IH) priorities, objectives, and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Engagement or Manager, Strategic Communications, the Consultant is responsible for the development and execution of strategic communications and engagement plans that inform, engage, and support diverse internal and external audiences.

The Consultant is accountable for leading and coordinating communications activities associated with assigned portfolios and projects, including partner engagement, media relations, government relations, capital communications, strategic communications planning, content development, and issues management. Working closely with leaders across the organization, the Consultant provides communications and engagement advice, develops integrated communications plans, and supports organizational objectives through effective planning, execution, and evaluation of communications initiatives.

The Consultant requires a strong understanding of the diverse audiences served by IH and the communications approaches needed to inform, engage, and build trust with those audiences regarding the programs, services, challenges, and opportunities within the organization. This advisory and action-oriented role delivers core communications and engagement functions while supporting IH's mission, strategic direction, and commitment to meaningful engagement.

What Will You Work On

Engagement

Develops communications and engagement plans in collaboration with various IH portfolio leaders and advises on appropriate communications channels, tools, and key messages to best reach and engage specific audiences. Implements communications and engagement plans that support IH’s strategic priorities, in accordance with best practices and in consideration of equity, diversity and inclusion principles. Develops complex concepts and ideas into clear plain language to suit a variety of partner audiences. Designs and /or consults on presentations and materials that are intended for increasing public awareness and understanding of our programs and services in alignment with IH’s brand, mission and values.

Media Relations

Manages and responds to media inquiries in a timely manner and works with internal subject matter experts to formulate messages, and types of responses to best inform audiences on topics relating to IH programs, services, initiatives, etc. Arranges for interviews and offers coaching, advice, and messaging to IH spokespeople as needed. Produces news releases and public service announcements as appropriate. Identifies opportunities for proactive storytelling, including the development of proactive media pitches. Occasionally acts as a media spokesperson.

Issues Management

Monitors and proactively identifies emerging issues, trends, and media coverage in communities and makes recommendations for appropriate response and/or engagement solutions. Creates strategic communication plans, issues notes, and key messages to manage issues, and works with subject matter experts to develop materials that are clear, understandable and action oriented. Supports partner relations by maintaining an understanding of community and health partners (their interests, motivations, health values and issues) within the IH region in order to appropriately advise on engagement and outreach opportunities. Develops internal relationships with IH teams to stay abreast of projects and initiatives that may require or benefit from communications input. Responsible for the distribution of sensitive information to senior management in a timely manner, including feedback from key partners. Supports crisis communications responses during significant situations, under the guidance of the Director, Communications & Engagement.

Digital Communications

May act as a strategic and tactical advisor for Digital Communications services to client groups of IH leaders or portfolios. Works to understand their operational objectives and to provide guidance on effective external strategies that will inform and engage audiences, anticipate and respond to issues, and articulate Interior Health key messages. Implements strategies to collaborate with other People & Engagement Portfolio members to improve the user experience and overall online engagement of IH’s external communications channels. Working with leaders across portfolios, identifies opportunities to strengthen and evolve the digital communications platforms leveraging emerging technologies and trends. Provides guidance on effective external strategies for online content that will inform and engage audiences, enhance and protect IH’s reputation. Regularly contributes to IH social media channels, calendar, and the IH website, using content management systems and ensuring alignment with best practices in online communications and engagement.

Other

Provides on-call (after hours) coverage for emergency activations as required. Performs other related duties as assigned. In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.
