Company Description Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) is the only professional association representing therapeutic recreation practitioners in Ontario, with a membership of more than 1,800 practitioners, educators, and students. TRO’s mission is to lead the therapeutic recreation profession through growth, advocacy, and innovation. The organization supports members with quality services including professional development, information sharing, networking opportunities, and sector-wide advocacy. TRO also promotes evidence-based research and best practices to strengthen the impact and credibility of the profession. Applicants will join a mission-driven association dedicated to advancing therapeutic recreation across the province. Role Description The Communications, Events and Engagement Lead is a full-time remote role responsible for developing and executing TRO’s communications and engagement strategy. This position oversees external and internal communications, including drafting press releases, member updates, newsletters, and website content to ensure consistent and clear messaging. The role plans, coordinates, and delivers virtual and in-person events such as professional development sessions, conferences, and member networking activities. The Lead manages member engagement initiatives, including social media, email campaigns, and feedback channels, to strengthen connections across practitioners, educators, and students. Collaboration with TRO leadership, committees, and partners is expected to support advocacy efforts, promote research and best practices, and enhance the overall member experience. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Communication and Writing skills to create clear, engaging, and accurate content for diverse audiences. Candidates should possess Strategic Communications and Internal Communications skills to develop aligned messaging and support organization-wide initiatives. Candidates should possess Press Releases experience, including drafting, editing, and distributing media materials that reflect TRO’s mission and brand. Candidates should possess event planning and coordination skills, including organizing virtual and in-person events, managing timelines, and working with vendors or partners. Candidates should possess digital engagement skills, such as managing social media channels, email campaigns, and online communities. Relevant qualifications include experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or nonprofit/member-based organizations; familiarity with the therapeutic recreation or healthcare sector is an asset. Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Recreation, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and volunteers.
