Medicine A

This is a unique opportunity to work in Acute Medicine, Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE), Sub-Acute Medicine (SAMU), and Palliative Care. The Medicine A program at Victoria Hospital offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to provide quality, holistic care to patients and their families across the life continuum. Acute Medicine is designed to treat and deliver care to a diverse adult patient population. There are a total of 24 beds, divided into two units of twelve beds each.

ACE provides care to an elderly acute population consisting of patients who are over 65 years of age. These patients may experience the presence of geriatric syndromes and acute illnesses. There are a total of 24 beds, divided into two units of twelve beds each.

SAMU utilizes a Hospitalist model of care to provide care to medically stable patients with multiple comorbidities. There are a total of 12 beds.

The Palliative Care Unit focuses on providing compassionate, comfort-focused care to patients and their families, during the end-of-life journey. Our team is committed to pain and symptom management, as well as guiding families through this challenging time. There are a total of 10 beds.

What we offer:

  • Regular Part-Time
  • Rate of Pay: $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Part-time employees receive a percentage in lieu of vacation and benefits, providing additional compensation on top of regular wages

  • Hours of work: No guarantee of hours

Part-time employees will have the opportunity to pick up additional shifts based on unit operational needs and availability

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of General Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Proof of current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request
  • Successful completion of a Pharmacology course
  • Completion of Palliative Care Fundamentals preferred
  • Recent acute care nursing experience
  • Previous experience in geriatric and palliative care nursing preferred
  • Ability to practice to full competency required
  • Completion of CAPCE (Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education) preferred
  • Completion Of GPA (Gentle Persuasive Approaches) preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cerner or an electronic health record preferred
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in a collaborative interdisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated ability to function autonomously and to adapt to changing situations and varying workload
  • Demonstrated commitment to the achievement of goals and objectives in patient care
  • Demonstrated proven problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflict
