Position Summary
Reporting to the Regional Director Quality Care, the Regional Educator develops, delivers, and evaluates training programs to ensure team members provide high-quality care and services. This role supports continuous learning, clinical best practices, and regulatory compliance through mentorship, education, and hands-on coaching.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in alignment with Optima Living’s mission, vision, and values, promoting person-centered care by respecting the uniqueness, dignity, and self-determination of residents to promote maximum personal and functional independence. These duties are performed within the framework of established organizational policies and procedures, industry best practices, while adhering to applicable regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Identifies the educational and training needs in the communities to ensure quality of care and services.
- Monitors emerging technologies and service trends, ensuring team members are properly trained.
- Implements and supports the delivery of onsite education programs.
- Assists in the implementation of specific strategies that improve the quality of care and services.
- Develops course content for the annual mandatory education.
- Manages the education calendar incorporating changes from regulatory and organizational initiatives.
- Ensures CCHSS Standard 9 is achieved and maintained by all team members.
- Facilitates Skills Labs to ensure team member competencies are met.
- Develops and delivers the education remediation programs that meets regulatory compliance and team members learning needs as directed by the Director of Care or designate.
- Manages student referrals to support the school partnerships and preceptorships through HSP Net.
- Collaborates with regional offices and regulatory bodies to collect, compile and deliver the information required for community audits.
- Leads the community Falls and Infection Prevention Control committees.
- Participates in monthly Alberta Health Services community meetings.
- Develops a community-based action plan as per template to sustain quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Care.
- Conducts annual medication-pass observations.
- Promptly reports unsafe conditions, incidents, or concerns to supervisor, General Manager or Health & Safety Committee.
- Identifies maintenance issues and reports them following established maintenance procedures.
- Responds promptly during emergency codes in alignment with organizational standards and protocols. \
- Contributes to quality improvement initiatives by sharing ideas and providing feedback.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Ensures adherence to infection control policies and procedures through regular audits, observations, and investigations.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of resident medical and personal information in accordance with privacy legislation.
- Completes orientation upon hire and annual mandatory education as assigned.
- Supports new team members through their orientation process.
- Participates in team meetings and stays informed on relevant internal communications.
- Performs other duties as required to support operational needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
- Maintains a current license to practice from the AB College of Registered Nurses (CRNA) & College of Licensed Practical Nurses (CLPNA).
- Minimum of five (5) years experience delivering training and education to clinical and non-clinical team members.
- Adult or clinical education experience is an asset.
- Experience in a residential care or mental health environment is an asset.
- Maintains an active CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in managing software systems, including EHR (Yardi) and Lippincott, at a Super User level is an asset.
- Ability to mentor team members by providing effective guidance and support, enhancing team learning and development.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to tailor training to diverse learning styles.
- 20% travel within Alberta is required.
- Demonstrates a therapeutic approach to the delivery of care.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Communicates in an approachable and respectful manner with the temperament to deal tactfully and cooperatively in all interactions.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to present professional documents with clarity.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively organize, prioritize and problem solve.
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Ability to manage and resolve difficult and challenging situations effectively and respectfully.
- Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position including adherence to provincial health legislation.
- Ability to safely operate equipment according to established protocols.
- Computer literacy skills required.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts.
