About the role

This is to fill an existing vacancy.

The Waterloo Regional Health Network Cancer Center (WRHN-CC) is currently recruiting for a hospitalist/internist to work on the inpatient ward at WRHN Midtown (Kitchener). This position is effective immediately for the successful candidate.

The successful candidate duties will include coverage of the inpatient oncology unit at WRHN Midtown 8 am to 5 pm, currently booking for 3 out of 4 week blocks. This coverage will consist of rounding on inpatients on the oncology unit, as well as admitting patients from the Emergency Department during daytime hours. These inpatients include solid tumor and malignant hematology patients on systemic therapy treatments (e.g. induction chemotherapy, autologous stem cell transplants), or patients with cancer that are admitted with complications of their treatments. The census is approximately 20 patients, and daytime duties are shared with another hospitalist as well as an experienced nurse practitioner specializing in leukemia.

Medical oncology and malignant hematology staff back-up is on site, and we will provide orientation and guidance to help successful candidates acclimatize to this role. Our cancer center is expanding quickly, and with other opportunities that allow for full time work (4 out of 4 weeks) if desired.

There is no call requirement with this position, but a first on call system is available with the ability to choose overnights and weekends as per candidate’s preference (with a separate stipend).

Remuneration is highly competitive.
