Your Opportunity:
This position is based in High Level at the Northwest Health Complex and provides recreation to the residents of this facility. The Recreation Therapy Aide, supervised by the Recreation Therapist, provides services in close collaboration with the rest of the Allied Health and Nursing team. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
Description:
As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Health Care Aide certificate or equivalent preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. This position is anticipated to have high physical demands based on the client need. The successful candidate needs to be physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time, loading clients onto the bus for outings, supporting the clients in a range of physical hygiene tasks and performing client transfers over the course of a full shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
Related experience working with elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset. Previous experience working with Recreation in a medical setting will be considered an asset.
