Job Summary and Requirements

This posting is for Two (2) Permanent full-time positions, one (1) 7 month term full-time position 75 hours bi-weekly, & One (1) permanent part time .5 Permanent position 37.5 hours bi-weekly.

This posting will also be used for anticipatory vacancies such as full-time permanent, part-time permanent, and term within Continuing Care.

Reporting to the supervisor of Recreation and Psychosocial Services, this position assists in providing goal-oriented programs and services that are tailored to meet the leisure-related needs of residents/clients to achieve the desired quality of life outcomes, as directed by the Recreation Therapist.

Essential Qualifications:

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Activity Assistant Certificate with recent experience
  • Recreation Therapy Assistant Diploma. (Diploma in similar field may be considered)
  • Recent and relevant experience supporting the implementation of recreational therapy programs in a healthcare setting

Candidates who have training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be considered

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:

Candidates should have and maybe assessed on:

  • Person-centred practices
  • Adaptive strategies for accommodating residents with limitations
  • Group facilitation techniques
  • Safe body mechanics while supporting residents to mobilize in-house and on outings
  • Pathology of a variety of disease processes including various dementias
  • Implementation of recreation therapist directed care plans

Conditions of Employment: TB Screening, RCMP Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector, WHMIS 2015 certificate, Standard First Aid with CPR C (within last 18 months), Food Safe certificate, Valid Class 4 Drivers Licence.

Job Requirements: Loading, unloading, and transporting residents on the bus, including securing wheelchairs; driving a bus; bending, stretching, reaching; lifting up to 30 lbs; exposure to animals, exposure to second hand smoke and other irritants.
