Job Description

Moose Mountain Health Care invites applications for the position of Family Physician in a rural family medicine practice in the town of Arcola, Saskatchewan. This physician will work within a multi-disciplinary team in providing primary care services to the community of Arcola and area and will work collaboratively with other medical professionals in Arcola and surrounding communities to support the acute care and emergency services for the area. This practice offers a full range of services, which would include admitting privileges and access to the region’s primary health care resources such as home care, mental health and addictions, chronic disease management, public health, etc. Acute care referral services are available in the city of Regina which is approximately 120 minutes away.

The SHA is dedicated to learning and is a partner in the growing educational needs of medical students and residents from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine.

Relocation Package

  • Reimbursement of relocation expenses between $5000-$7500 depending on location in exchange for return in service.
  • Community assistance with housing and settlement
  • Potential for a grant of up to $47,000 over 4 years through the Rural Physician Incentive Program (RPIP)

Job Qualifications

This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.

The candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Successful applicants will be eligible for a provisional or regular license to practice in Saskatchewan. Applicants will also hold ACLS certification, an acceptable criminal record check with vulnerable sector search (dated within 6 months) and have 3 acceptable references.

In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

The successful applicant is expected to participate in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Department of Family Medicine in the Southeast Area.

The start date for this position is negotiable. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required to become a member of Practitioner Staff and provide care in Saskatchewan Health Authority facilities.

The Community:

  • Saskatchewan is located in western Canada between the provinces of Alberta and Manitoba, and just to the north of the U.S. states of North Dakota and Montana. Its latest growth figures place it first among western provinces and second amongst all Canadian provinces and territories. Its current population sits around 1.13 million (Oct. 1, 2014). Saskatchewan also boasts two National Parks and 34 Provincial Parks, among more than two million hectares/five million acres of parkland.
  • Arcola is a town of approximately 700 people which also services a broader farming area, oil field, and two First Nations’ communities.
  • Moose Mountain Provincial Park is located nearby at only 40 km from Arcola. Moose Mountain operates year round and offers golfing, camping, swimming, and trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
  • Arcola is situated approximately 200 km from Regina, the provincial capital of Saskatchewan. Regina boasts an urban forest of more than 350,000 hand-planted trees, an extensive park system, major attractions, shopping, and a rich, colourful heritage. Its population currently hovers around 230,000 people.
  • Elementary and High School education available at the Arcola School.
  • Arcola Health Centre offers 12 acute care beds and a range of acute care services, including emergency services, palliative care, mental health services and telehealth. Occupational therapy and physical therapy are also offered at the facility.
  • Arcola Family Health Clinic is a private care provider located next to the Arcola Health Centre which offers medical, lab, x-ray and chiropractic services.
