Advisor - Youth Protection

Reporting to the Director of Youth Protection,

The incumbent provides support and advice to the Director of Youth Protection related to the Youth Protection Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and policies, regulations and directives from the MSSS,

The incumbent provides a liaison function between First line services (CMC) and Pimuhteheu and Nishiiyuu departments for the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs and services.

The incumbent provides liaison and communications with all concerned partners of the communities, Eeyou Istchee and externally, regarding information related to YPA and YP programs and services provided, as directed by the Director.

The incumbent represents the DYP on provincial committees and in relation with the Ministry and reports to the DYP about orientations coming out of these committees and the MSSS.

The incumbent represents the DYP when dealing with other organizations outside the Eeyou Istchee (such as the Réseau Universitaire Intégré de Santé (RUIS) Network, CUSM, CIUSSSODIM including Batshaw YP and Douglas hospital) regarding services and collaborations.

The incumbent is a member of the DYP management team.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or an equivalent in a psycho-social field;
  • Five (5) years of experience in Youth Protection or social services administration.
  • Three years' experience in management would be an asset
  • A Certificate or courses in management and administration is an asset.
  • Membership in one of the following order would be an asset:
    • Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec
    • Ordre des psychologues
    • Ordre des psychothérapeutes
    • Ordre des criminologues.

Knowledge and abilities:

  • Good knowledge of the MSSS and Quebec health and social services programs, laws, regulations, the RUISSS Network, orientations and integration of traditional methods of healing into services
  • Ability to apply Eeyou (Cree) culture and values in the workplace;
  • Excellent critical thinking, planning and organizational skills as applied to planning;
  • Results-oriented, autonomous, flexible, and ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop of new clinical programs, services, practice guide lines and supporting protocols;
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and respectful teamwork skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both for written and oral presentations;
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all colleagues, as a team member, and in advisory capacity
  • Ability in administrative and statistical computer applications; and,
  • Knowledge of Cree culture is an asset.


  • Fluent in French and English (speaking and writing);
  • Fluency in Cree is an asset.

Salary: Min $70,185 - Max $91,241 yearly network
