Facilities Manager

Full-Time Regular Position @ 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week)

Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (PQWCHC) is a dynamic, community-based health care organization serving mid-west downtown Toronto. Offering a broad range of services, including primary health care, dental care, harm reduction, health promotion, counselling, and community development programming, we are also committed to serving people who face barriers to health care, and we strive to reduce these barriers. PQWCHC is a multi-sited organization.


General Responsibilities: The facilities manager brings to the organization experience in building a facilities team, supervising staff, and managing contractors. With a small team, the Facilities manager is expected to do hands on work to support staff. In the facilities management role, the successful candidate will have accountability for managing the various properties and be the point of contact for tenants and property owners. The job requires that the successful candidate works regular and extended hours as required by the Centre’s operations. The manager will be on call 24 hours as required

Reporting Manager: Director, Finance and Operations

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more of progressive experience in property and workspace management
  • Post secondary education (an asset)
  • Knowledge of building codes, fire codes, fire safety, and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Experience in maintaining mechanical systems such as HVAC, security, elevator, fire.
  • Understanding of Infection control best practices
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Intermediate knowledge and skills in construction, carpentry, plumbing and electrical
  • Experience using project management skills to successfully deliver construction projects
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology solutions to improve facilities functions
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, and communication skills to respond effectively to staff issues requests, and vendors inquiries
  • Highly flexible, consistently positive, and team-oriented outlook
  • Experience working in a community health centre is an asset.


General Responsibilities

  • Work with the Finance team to develop operational and opportunity budgets
  • Manage on site maintenance staff.
  • Obtain quotes, select qualified trades/outside contractors, and monitor their work.
  • Experience working with and evaluating the work of various trades
  • Support the staff in implementing good inventory management practices
  • Coordinate space moves and relocate to new offices
  • Identify and resolve all maintenance and repair issues that arise and ensure facilities, including all building systems, are safe and properly maintained.
  • Develop and maintain schedule of preventive maintenance
  • Work with the Director of Finance and Operations to identify and coordinate any major capital projects.
  • Manage building security, including key and fob entry systems
  • Point of contact for leased properties to ensure PQWCHC responds to staff in those locations
  • Continue to upgrade knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Ontario Human Rights Code and other relevant legislation.


Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus Group Benefits and HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan)
