NURSE PRACTITIONER

NEW OPPORTUNITY

FULL-TIME (40 HOURS, WEEKLY)

STARTING WAGE: $48.66 - $53.43/HOUR (BASED ON EXPERIENCE)

THIS POSITION IS WITHIN OPSEU LOCAL 720 BARGAINING UNIT

START DATE:  AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

To provide initial and ongoing assessment, treatment and evaluation for clients referred to.  To ensure that standards of patient care are maintained according to the standards of practice within the College of Nurses of Ontario Registered Nurses in the Extended Class.

Key Responsibilities:

The Nurse Practitioner shall assume responsibility and be evaluated for:

  1. Performs initial mental health assessment of clients, documenting in health record
  2. Prescribes, monitors and evaluates medication in treatment
  3. Order diagnostic testing for clients
  4. Refers clients to psychiatry services, relaying all pertinent information from assessment
  5. Maintain accurate and timely records
  6. Collaborate with consulting psychiatrist on appropriate treatment, advocating for the client, serving as primary liaison with psychiatry
  7. Collaborate with primary practitioners in shared care philosophy
  8. Provide education to staff as required
  9. Attend OTN appointments as required for district clients
  10. Comply with Nurse Practitioner practice standards as outlined by College of Nurses of Ontario
  11. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Characteristics:

Minimum education and experience includes:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario for Nurse Practitioner in good standing
  • Up to date knowledge of psychiatric medications
  • Training, knowledge and experience working with clients who have psychiatric illness, with particular emphasis on psychosis and concurrent disorders
  • Knowledge of developmental issues and needs of young adults, their families, caregivers, and a sensitivity to the needs of indigenous clients
  • Good communication, engagement, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience, in integrating medical and recovery models of care with clients
  • Ability to work collaboratively with, and knowledge of community resources, to support clients, families, caregivers, team members, hospital and community resources
  • Computer skills using Microsoft Windows Outlook and Word
  • Knowledge of screening tools used in psychiatric practice
  • Knowledge and comprehension of the Mental Health Act, Healthcare Consent Act, Child & Family Services Act. Substitute Decisions Act and Privacy legislation
  • Current Police Clearance Certificate required
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle and $2,000,000 vehicle liability insurance
  • Strong work ethic and emphatic to needs of clients with mental health issues
