CRISIS RESPONSE SUPERVISOR

FULL TIME POSITION (80 HOURS BI-WEEKLY)

START DATE:  AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

The CMHA Branch provides centralized and mobile crisis services in the City of Thunder Bay and District.  The program operates a 24 hour a day, seven days a week telephone call centre; Stabilization Bed Program, and a seven day week evening mobile response.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for providing dynamic leadership within the Crisis Program to strengthen the delivery of crisis services in Thunder Bay and the District.  The Supervisor will be part of a management team and when required serve as Acting Manager.   Hours of work will be rotating days/evenings, some weekends as required.

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Social/Human Services with 3 to 5 years' experience in a supervisory capacity in a mental health and/or addictions environment.  Other combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide mentorship, guidance, training and clinical supervision to crisis staff to ensure timely and effective recovery focused care to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. 
  2. Provide feedback and clinical direction to team members in areas of crisis triage, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and documentation.
  3. Orientation and training of new hires, scheduling, staff supervision, performance correction and evaluation, and discipline.
  4. Assuming On-Call Rotation for the agency.
  5. Implement revised operations and initiatives under the direction of the Manager.
  6. Assist in ensuring services are reflecting and meeting standards and best practice of crisis intervention and joint police mobile crisis response modalities/models.
  7. Provide input and evaluation to the Manager to promote program development and enhancements for community response to mental health crisis, particularly with Police and EMS.
  8. Organize and attend client program conferences as required.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Characteristics:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Services, Social Services or related discipline
  • Regulated Health Professional is considered an asset
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years' direct supervisory experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in the field of mental health across the life span (youth, adults, elderly)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the community mental health system within Thunder Bay and district and relevant resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills is essential
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, The Child and Family Services Act, and other relevant legislations.
  • Demonstrated skill in conflict resolution and team dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve and make decisions in crisis situations
  • Ability to speak French considered an asset.
  • The use of vehicle (valid driver's license), and 2 million liability is required
  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

This position involves flexible hours and the successful candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends, and provide emergency on-call support as needed.  Must be willing to work nights, and this position requires the ability to work a variety of shifts including evening and weekends and providing emergency on call services.
