This position can be located in Ottawa, Toronto or Montreal.

The Bilingual Senior Manager, Employee Well-Being oversees the strategy and execution of employee well-being programs, policies and practices. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Employee Well-Being team comprised of the following functions: employee relations (ER), absence and disability management and case management activities, health and safety and ethical culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of the annual corporate sector HR plan and develop the employee well-being (WW) division plan, proposing key deliverables/outcomes for the year and working with the Vice-President, People and Culture to agree on prioritization.

  • Ensure that CMHC's employee well-being strategy and approach is robust, consistently applied and responsive to emerging issues and it strikes the right balance between fostering constructive relationships, enabling change and managing risk. This includes CMHC's Code of Ethics and Business Conduct as a key framework for adherence by CMHC employees.

  • Lead corporate programs in the areas of ethical conduct and CMHC values as well as wellness and mental health by establishing programs, strategies including working with vendors to develop curriculum/content and ensuring that communications are targeted to the appropriate audience.

  • Lead the pursuit of operational excellence and ensure CMHC continues to be an employer of choice by:
    • Deploying best practices, identifying risks and emerging trends on Employee Relations and well-being matters.
    • Developing, directing and overseeing employee relations, absence management, health and safety policies and programs and ensure they align with business objectives, are in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and promote the development and maintenance of respectful employee-employer relations.
    • Providing expert-level advice, guidance and recommendations to business leaders, legal services, senior management and HR to resolve complex employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, health and safety, disability management, employee benefits, workplace well-being issues, and policy interpretation to encourage adherence to internal processes.

  • Lead union negotiations with Granville Island (About Granville Island - Granville Island - Vancouver, BC) by proposing strategies and approaches. Ensure the consistent interpretation and application of collective agreements as well as provide advice on grievance matters; ensure any changes arising from union consultations and negotiations are consistent with strategic objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Law is preferred and/or a combination of education in related field such as: Human Resources Management, Business Administration or Industrial Relations will be considered.
  • Ten years of experience interpreting and applying employment law and regulations (including the Canada Labour Code and the Canadian human Rights Act).
  • Five years of management experience leading a team in Human Resources responsible for solving employment legislative issues and conflict management.
  • Expert working knowledge and understanding of employee relations trends/best practices and industry trends relating to human resources, ethics, wellness and mental health.
  • Expert written and oral communication skills (English and French) with the ability to customize communications for stakeholders and communicate with tact and diplomacy.
  • Recognized abilities for relationship building, decisiveness, judgment, conflict management, information seeking and problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation.
  • Accreditation in mediation and/or conflict resolution.
  • Membership of a Bar (Labour Law) in any province or territory in Canada.
