R. W. Large Memorial Hospital is located in Bella Bella, B.C.  It is one of the only provincial hospitals located on a reserve in Canada.  Bella Bella is the home of the Heiltsuk Nation and services the communities of Bella Bella and Denny Island.  We also provide services to our neighbouring communities of Klemtu and Ocean Falls as well as the fishing lodges in the area. About the Opportunity

Vancouver Coastal Health is currently looking to add Registered Nurses to our team in Bella Bella, BC. 

In this role, you will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC) as well as within a patient/client/resident and family centered care model and the vision and values of the organization. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing nursing care to patients/clients in the inpatient ward.
  • Providing nursing care to predominantly older residents in a continuing care setting.
  • Providing emergency nursing care to patients/clients of all ages presenting to the emergency department with a wide variety of symptoms.
  • Working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of the client/resident/patient and/or family.
  • Consulting, conferring, and collaborating with other health care providers.
  • Demonstrating continuous improvement and best practices approach in nursing practice.
  • Demonstrating expertise and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Maintaining and advances own clinical competence.
  • Participating in designated committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

In order to qualify for this role, you will need to have completed a recognized advanced nursing program in emergency or critical care nursing combined with at least one year of recent, related experience. Please note that an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The ideal candidate will also have: 

  • Current practising registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
  • The ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
  • Familiar with the management of trauma in an emergency setting.
  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Experience with CPR techniques.
  • Proficient computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
  • Established skill in n clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Willingness and ability to mentor new staff and students.
  • The ability to perform the duties of the position.
