ABOUT FORT MCKAY

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for passionate and caring Nurse Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary Health care team! If you are looking to make a difference in the lives of others by providing holistic, safe, and quality nursing care, the Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) has an opportunity for you as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in our community. Under the direction of the Health Director, the NP services adult and youth patients who present for primary care and urgent care services. The NP is a regulated member of the healthcare team and utilizes the nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to provide care to Fort McKay community members.

*This is a full-time permanent position located in Fort McKay, AB and includes working days, evenings and weekends and range from 8 to 12 hours/shift.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Examine patients and take their medical history and consult with physicians and other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health where necessary.
• Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures.
• Advise patients and their families on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention.
• Collaborate with other health professionals such as physicians, therapists and nutritionists to plan, implement, co-ordinate and evaluate patient care in consultation with patients and their families.

• Provide expert clinical care in managing the health needs of a variety of populations and applies further knowledge and decision-making skills in assessment, diagnosis and clinical management.
• Provide leadership and actively participates in program development and evaluation, research and clinical teaching activities.
• Participates in interdisciplinary collaboration to determine and regularly review local guidelines for drug prescription, distribution, monitoring, and record keeping while ensuring consistency with provincial prescribing and distributing guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Master of Nursing or equivalent graduate degree with a focus on advanced clinical nursing practice
• Minimum 2 years recent experience as an NP in a relevant outpatient clinical setting and/or front-line clinical work with preference for those working across the life span and in primary care setting such as Family Medicine is required
• Registration and in good standing with (CARNA) College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta or other Provincial nursing regulatory body
• Eligible for licensure with CARNA as a Nurse Practitioner in the Family/All Ages Stream
• Completion of Trauma Nurse Core Course or other advanced clinical setting
• Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up care in the community considered an asset
• CPR and ACLS required.
• Experience working in a First Nations community setting including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values considered an asset
• Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract
• Criminal record and Vulnerable sector check
• Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
