Keewaytinook Okimakanak, which means Northern Chiefs in Oji-Cree, is a non-political Chiefs Council serving Fort Severn, Keewaywin, Deer Lake, North Spirit Lake, Poplar Hill, and McDowell Lake First Nations. Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education (KOBE) is mandated by the leadership of those communities to coordinate their educational programming. KOBE is committed to seeing the growth of educational programs and services in these communities and weaving each community’s diverse and rich history and traditions into all its academic planning while continuously “Moving Education Forward.”

The Diabetes Nurse Educator develops and implements a diabetes program while providing in-home nursing services and comprehensive care planning for clients. They collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to educate patients on disease management, lifestyle choices, and self-monitoring techniques.

Lead a comprehensive range of nursing functions including primary, community, and urgent care within a First Nations community. Coordinate an interdisciplinary patient-centered model of care and provide professional guidance to community health team members.

Implement and deliver the Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) to prevent tooth decay and promote oral health among First Nations children and caregivers. Responsibilities include conducting screenings, providing preventative treatments, and managing program data and administration.

The Clinical Nurse will provide direct clinical care to patients, focusing on wound care, diabetic management, and phlebotomy services. They will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.

The nurse develops and implements in-home nursing and public health services for clients in KO communities, including immunizations and case management. They provide direct client-centered care and supervise Community Personal Support Workers to ensure optimal service delivery.

The PSW provides personal care, respite assistance, and home management to clients within KO communities. Responsibilities include maintaining medical regimes, performing daily data entry into the CEMR, and coordinating with the Nurse Supervisor.
