Responsibilities The Community Health Nurse (CHN) assists clients in promotion, protection and restoration of health, to educate about, prevent and reduce the incidence of disease, disability and death. The CHN provides a comprehensive community health service in conjunction with the health care team and works within the context of Primary Health care to improve the capacity of clients to adapt to, respond to or control, life’s challenges, and changes. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) provides a full continuum of public health services to individuals in the community in accordance with the public health program standards set by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH). The position exists to protect, restore and promote health and reduce the incidence of disease and disability through health promotion, health protection and disease/injury prevention activities. Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the Community Health Nurse job are obtained through a Bachelor of Nursing with one year of experience in an acute care clinical setting and/or other equivalencies or related experiences in increasingly diverse settings such as community health centres, schools, street clinics, youth centres, and nursing outposts, and with diverse partners, to meet the health needs of specific populations. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the Public Health Nurse are usually obtained through an Bachelor Degree of Nursing, or Diploma in Nursing with Certificate in Public Health, plus a minimum of two years public health nursing experience or related is required. What we have to offer: Contracts from 4 weeks up to 4 months Flights provided for travel in/out of community Subsidized Transient Housing Available Up to three travel days provided at the start/end of contract Competitive salaries and Northern Allowance Family and Friend Incentive Tiered Allowance = $10/hour (depending on community, peak periods) Continuous Service Allowance = $2.31 per hour Special Annual Allowance = $4.61- $10.00 per hour (depending on size of nursing station) This is a Highly Sensitive Position and satisfactory Criminal Record Check along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. Requirements

Requires a Bachelor of Nursing with at least one year of acute care experience for CHN roles, or a Nursing degree/diploma with a Public Health certificate and two years of experience for PHN roles. Must pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
