Niagara Health System (NHS) manages health care services across twelve municipalities throughout the Niagara region. It is one of Ontario’s largest healthcare facilities with multiple sites and a network of community-based services offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services to approximately five hundred thousand residents. NHS provides emergency care, acute care, cancer care, long-term care women’s services, pediatric services, and mental health and addictions. It is also a community-based academic center and one of the largest employers in the Niagara region.
Niagara Health System is composed of more than 4800 employees and 600 physicians. Each employee, whether a nurse, a physician, a maintenance person, a receptionist or an IT specialist, serves the public by helping people stay healthy, recover, and cope with illness and death in the best way possible. It should be noted that prospective employees ought to be prepared to accept part-time and casual part-time work as it may take time to attract a full-time position, something common in many healthcare institutions in Canada.
Niagara Health System provides its employees with competitive compensation and a health and wellness package. Other benefits include maternity/paternity leave, three weeks paid vacation after one year of work, flexible work hours, a shortened workweek and telecommuting. Additionally, there is professional development, in house training, contributions to a defined pension plan and assistance with retirement planning. Working in the Niagara region also affords many amenities, such as the beautiful landscapes of the Bruce Trail and Niagara Falls, affordable housing and close proximity to Toronto.
Niagara Health System is driven and inspired by its CORE values to be Extraordinary through Compassion, Optimism and Results. It believes that patients and their families, as well as the hospital personnel and the community at large, deserve care and attention to function at their best. It believes hospitals are both representatives and reflections of their communities. Niagara Health System is committed to the highest safety and quality standards and, to that end, is accredited with Exemplary Standing with Accreditation Canada for 2015-2019. It is also one of Hamilton- Niagara’s Top Employers 2019.
