Job summary
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Elk Island Catholic School District is currently seeking a qualified full-time, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a contracted assignment at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Sherwood Park. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will utilize applicable medical nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills to provide medical care for a student by following a Student's Specialized Medical Plan, drafted in collaboration with the student's medical team and family, and division staff. The successful candidate will be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Elk Island Catholic School District policies and procedures. As part of the school's collaborative team, the successful candidate will also support the educational programming for the assigned student. Responsibilities Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Inclusive Learning Services and the school principal, the LPN will work within a Collaborative Response Model and will be responsible for: Provide ongoing personal and physical care and medical assistance Provide specialized medical services such as but not limited to: Life threatening; medically fragile, diabetes, Glucose monitoring (Glucose Monitoring- similar to diabetes- Libre 2- patch- monitor and document readings and intervene as needed), seizures (Seizures- daily tracking (absent seizures and tonic) -tonic is less frequent- recuse meds need to be given in a specialized way due to GJtube Critical & quick decision-making on medical needs Assistance with catheterization; GJ-tube or specialized feeding A GJ-tube plan will be provided and needs to be followed closely Daily charting - seizures, glucose levels, feedings, medication, vital signs- as needed Monitor oral intake, activity level, and absorption of bowels, and make decisions for glucose monitoring, and delivery, as well as medication administration (dosage determination) Monitor site for insulin delivery Charting for medical needs Toileting: diapering, colostomy bag care and the disposal of biohazards Respiratory therapy interventions Physiotherapy Specialized equipment, operation of mechanical lift Dressing and grooming and personal hygiene Daily and frequent lifts. Transfers in and out of specialized equipment (standing frame, full head support walker) Attend and participate in team meetings, case conferences and professional development activities, as determined by school and division staff Collaborate with the school and division team on the goals, objectives and strategies for individualized programming plans Monitor student throughout the day to ensure safety, anticipate needs and intervene Ensure proper and effective documentation shared with school and division staff, and integrated into student's individualized program plan Ensure student has the necessary materials to complete classwork and activities Assist student in adapting to the classroom, developing social skills, self-esteem, independence, implementing regulation supports, and interacting with others instruct student on the work to be completed and provide assistance in completing classroom work and activities As part of the collaborative classroom team, support other students, as needed Qualifications LPN designation by the Practical Nurses of Alberta is required and membership in good standing with College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPN). Must hold an LPN designation and be a member in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta. Required certifications include Diabetic training and G-Tube training.
