Description: The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated health professional who provides direct personal care and health support services to clients across the lifespan, in accordance with their scope of practice, regulatory standards, and government legislation. Functional supervision is provided by a member of the nursing team and may occur directly or indirectly in accordance with client needs, care context, and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team the HCA provides care in alignment with documented care plans and assigned or delegated tasks, delivering assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in health status, and supporting the physical, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural well being of clients. HCAs attend to clients¿ comfort, engagement, and safety by recognizing changes in behaviour, responsiveness, participation, or signs of distress, and by promptly sharing observations with the appropriate team member. They play a vital role in promoting comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of clients and the care team. HCAs actively engage in continuous improvement through feedback, self-reflection, and learning opportunities. The role requires initiative, openness to growth, and a strong commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and accountability. This includes intentionally living Covenant¿s values in day-to-day practice and reflecting them in decision-making, client interactions, teamwork, and the overall approach to care. Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a seniors care or long-term care setting. Knowledge of geriatric care practices and common health conditions affecting seniors. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with residents who have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Familiarity with Alberta’s health care regulations and standards. Previous experience with mobility aids and assistive devices. Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems; such as Connect Care. Valid certification in the Competency Assessment Program (CAP) for Health Care Aides in Alberta, or the ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
