About the CASA Mental Health Classrooms Program You will be a part of a team that works within community schools, right where children live and learn. The CASA Mental Health Classrooms program provides individual and group therapy, psychiatric care, medication management and schooling according to each student’s individual need. CASA Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program is delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions Job Details Wage range: $40.28 to $53.03 per hour Vacation: Accrual of 4.18 hours per pay period Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day Primary location: Red Deer Secondary location(s): Innisfail, Rocky Mountain House and Lacombe Union: In-scope Classification: Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse FTE: 1.0 for the duration of the school year. This position is expected to operate for 10.5 months per year. Status: Permanent Hybrid/Multi-site About the Role Reporting to the Program Manager, the Mental Health Nurse works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to provide and coordinate services such as nursing assessment and plan of care, medication administration, teaching, telephone follow up, health promotion and may assist with therapy. The Mental Health Nurse practices according to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific nursing college. The Mental Health Nurse will: Complete appropriate nursing assessments (physical, psychosocial and mental status) to identify mental health concerns and current risks. This includes: incorporating objective findings such as laboratory and diagnostic findings, specialist reports and history. medication reconciliation. monitoring of physiological parameters. medication side effects. Integrate assessment and other data to establish appropriate long and short-term goals and provide nursing interventions to promote, maintain and restore health. Monitor, evaluate and modify nursing care plans based on effectiveness of interventions and/or changes in condition or environment, in collaboration with the patient and care team. Provide information and instructions to assist in understanding the clinical condition, ongoing care and management. Provide relevant medication teaching. Assist with individual or group therapy. Accurately document findings are in the health record. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and teamwork skills. Knowledge of family therapy and group therapy is an asset. Knowledge of the Health Information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice. Knowledge of community resources and organizations related to children’s mental health and psychiatry. Respect and understanding of confidentiality and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information. Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems. Apply theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting. Utilize relevant research findings in daily nursing practice. Qualifications and Experience A bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of three to five years recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting which has included the care and management of children with mental health problems. Acute care experience in children’s mental health would be an asset. Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta. Conditions of Employment A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate. Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions. Requirements

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and three to five years of recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting. Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta is mandatory.
