Registered Nurse - Surgical Services, PACU

Position: Registered Nurse – OR/PACU - Primarily PACU Competition: 2026-266 (Existing) Status: Temporary Part Time (up to 6 months with possible extension) Department: Surgical Services UNION: ONA SALARY: $41.15-$58.98/Hour Position Summary Under the supervision of the program manager, the registered nurse in the surgical services unit is responsible for the provision of quality nursing care to a patient or group of patients. The provision of such nursing care is expected to be within the standards of nursing practice (CNO) and the standards of the nursing unit. The registered nurse is expected to maintain competence and skills through on-going participation in provided continuing education and will be able to demonstrate proof of such participation. The registered nurse actively participates in CNO quality assurance program. The registered nurse participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives. We offer onsite training for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS, basic life support (BLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). Requirements Education and experience: Registered nurse and current member in good standing of the college of nurses of Ontario Post anaesthesia care nursing course required Post degree operating room course required IV certification required BCLS required and maintained throughout employment ACLS and PALS certification preferred Critical Care experience within the last two years preferred Knowledge of ORNAC/OPANA/NAPAN standards of practice required Skills And Abilities Excellent assessment skills Demonstrated surgical nursing knowledge Demonstrated good organizational and problem-solving skills in stressful situations Demonstrated good interpersonal skills with an ability to work well and effectively with a variety of staff, patients and family Good communication skills, both oral and written Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision Demonstrated competence in the administration of medication Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment Ability to accept direction and feedback Computer literacy mandatory Good attendance and availability required Ability to work shifts and be on call required

The Registered Nurse provides quality nursing care to patients in the surgical services unit according to CNO and unit standards. They participate in quality assurance, risk management, and hospital-wide initiatives to promote a safe, patient-centered environment.

Candidates must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario with certifications in IV, BCLS, and post-anaesthesia/operating room courses. Critical care experience and ACLS/PALS certifications are preferred.
