The MLA must practice in accordance with the Medical Laboratory Technology Act, CMLTO, Laboratory Accreditation and Hospital regulations and standards. Required Qualifications / Skills / Abilities: MLPAO or CSMLS Certified Lab Assistant Diploma Secondary Education or equivalent is required Phlebotomy experience an asset Demonstrated understanding and use of lab and hospital software systems (i.e. LIS, Document management system) Ability to interact effectively with others within and outside of the organization (i.e. staff physicians, patients, technologists, suppliers, Ministry of Health) Ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in a stressful environment Ability to work in a team environment Ability to organize, prioritize and adapt to constant changing priorities Competency as described in the Competency Profile – Medical Laboratory Assistant, as published by the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation Availability to work off-shifts, standby, on call and weekends as scheduled, and ability for multi-site coverage when required Ability to function effectively in a team environment Ability to handle exposures to infection, noise, odours, working interruptions and high pressure situations Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records Demonstrate, promote and encourage Brightshores’ values – We Show Up for Each Other, We Are Trusted to Act, We Create Solutions Together, We Strive for Better, We Share Accountability Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes Comply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and regulations, and actively contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment

Requirements

Requires an MLPAO- or CSMLS-certified Laboratory Assistant diploma and secondary education or equivalent; phlebotomy experience is an asset. Candidates need laboratory software familiarity, strong teamwork and organizational skills, accurate recordkeeping, confidentiality, and availability for scheduled off-shifts, standby, on-call work, weekends, and multi-site coverage.
